What is a Vampire Facial
The Vampire Facial is microneedling evolved. The evolution involves the use of your own blood, or more specifically your PRP (platelet rich plasma), to encourage even better healing results, hence the use of the word “vampire.” Although in this case, it isn’t Dracula or a bat removing blood from your body, it’s a member of the Palmetto Vein & Aesthetic Center medical staff.
The results of this treatment are smoother skin, a healthier glow, and a rejuvenated face.
Why Use PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)?
When we get a cut on our body, what’s the first thing to show up? Blood. The reason for this is the blood carries with it platelet rich plasma (PRP). PRP is what causes our skin to heal from injury. PRP isn’t the only component of blood, just the one that assists in healing the most.
Concentrating this PRP and reintroducing it to the body adds healing nutrients to the body, healing it quicker and giving it a rejuvenated glow. It encourages the growth of new skin and boosts the body’s collagen production.
Why Combine PRP with Microneedling?
Microneedling works by causing thousands of “microfractures” on the skin. These injuries are significant enough to the skin to cause the body to heal it, but not significant enough to cause you permanent harm or pain. Adding the PRP to microneedling provides an extra boost of healing power.
How is a Vampire Facial Done?
The first step to a Vampire Facial is to get the blood from your system. This process is exactly like having blood drawn at the doctor’s office, or while giving blood. The blood is then placed into a centrifuge and spun around at a high speed until the components of the blood separate. We grab the PRP and prepare it to be introduced into your skin.
The next step is the microneedling enhanced with the PRP. We utilize the MDPen to create the microfractures across your face. Your body will get right to work in healing these fractures, and it will be assisted by the PRP.
What Does it Feel Like?
Before treatment begins, we will cleanse your face and add a topical numbing cream. This isn’t a surgical procedure, so there is no need for anesthesia, but the topical cream will help reduce the pain of the procedure to pressure and a prick or two.
Once the process is completed, we will clean your face again and provide it with intense moisturizers. The most common feeling after the procedure is completed is dry skin or the feeling of a sunburn. These effects are mild and only last a short amount of time.
What are the Results?
As the skin heals itself, you will notice smoother and softer skin. Collagen levels are boosted, and the previously dead and dry skin are now gone. You’ll feel as if you’re absolutely glowing!
